Gemini Live Expands Voice Control Across Android Apps

Google Gemini AI assistant branding

Google is expanding Gemini Live Connected Apps support on Android, allowing users to control more services through natural voice conversations. The update extends Gemini Live beyond basic assistant functions and strengthens Google’s broader AI ecosystem strategy.

Users can now interact with Google Home, Flights, Hotels, Workspace, Shopping, YouTube, YouTube Music, and Spotify directly through Gemini Live. Previously, Connected Apps support focused mainly on Calendar, Keep, Tasks, and Maps.

As a result, Android users can search for flights, manage smart home devices, play music, and access productivity tools without leaving the conversation interface. Additionally, the update introduces image generation capabilities within Gemini Live sessions.

Neural Expressive Redesign Improves User Experience

The expanded Connected Apps rollout arrives alongside Google’s Neural Expressive redesign introduced at Google I/O 2026. The redesign adds smoother animations, updated typography, improved haptic feedback, and more dynamic visuals across Android, iOS, and web platforms.

Google has also integrated Gemini Live directly into the main Gemini interface. Therefore, users can switch seamlessly between voice and text interactions without entering a separate full-screen mode.

The redesign builds on Google’s earlier floating overlay interface tests. Consequently, Gemini now offers a more flexible and conversational experience across devices and applications.

Google Accelerates Its Broader Gemini AI Push

The Connected Apps expansion forms part of Google’s wider AI announcements from I/O 2026. During the event, the company introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini Omni video generation, and Gemini Spark, a persistent AI assistant designed for long-running autonomous tasks.

Google also expanded integration with third-party services, including Canva and Instacart. Meanwhile, the company increased the capabilities of its AI Ultra subscription tier, which now includes higher usage limits and premium AI tools.

The updates highlight Google’s strategy to position Gemini as a central AI platform across productivity, entertainment, smart home management, and everyday digital interactions.
