Google Adds AI Voice to Gmail, Keep

Gmail AI voice assistant interface

Google has begun testing conversational AI voice features for Gmail and Google Keep ahead of a broader rollout later this year. The new capabilities allow users to interact with both apps through natural voice conversations instead of typing. Consequently, everyday tasks such as managing emails, creating notes, and organizing information become faster and more intuitive.

The features were first introduced during Google I/O 2026 as part of Google’s expanding Gemini AI ecosystem. Moreover, the company plans to bring similar voice-first experiences to additional Workspace applications.

Voice Commands Simplify Everyday Tasks

In Google Keep, users can create notes, edit existing content, and organize information using spoken commands. A new Live floating action button opens a conversational voice interface that also lets users create reminders, which automatically sync with Google Tasks. In addition, the interface includes controls to mute the microphone, submit voice instructions, or cancel voice input.

Gmail is also receiving a conversational AI interface. Therefore, users can search their inbox, ask questions about emails, and complete common email tasks through natural voice interactions. Reports indicate that the feature is currently available only to a limited group of testers in the United States.

Gemini Expands Across Google Workspace

Google also announced conversational AI capabilities for Google Docs during Google I/O 2026. As a result, users will be able to brainstorm ideas, draft documents, and refine content using voice while accessing information from Gmail, Google Drive, Google Chat, and the web with user permission.

The company has not confirmed a specific public release date. However, Google said the new AI voice features will begin rolling out this summer in the United States for Google AI Pro, Google AI Ultra, and eligible Google Workspace users on Android and iOS. Furthermore, the launch is expected to coincide with the arrival of the upcoming Pixel 11 smartphone series.

As Google continues expanding Gemini across its productivity ecosystem, conversational voice interactions are becoming a central part of its AI strategy. Consequently, users can expect a more natural, hands-free experience across Google’s apps while improving productivity through intelligent automation.
