OpenAI has started rolling out GPT-5.5 Instant as the new default model for ChatGPT, replacing GPT-5.3 Instant less than two months after its release. As a result, the update focuses on improving factual accuracy, simplifying responses, and strengthening personalization features across the platform.

Improved Accuracy and Cleaner Responses

GPT-5.5 Instant introduces major improvements in reducing factual errors across high-stakes topics such as medicine, finance, and law. Consequently, the model delivers more dependable responses during complex conversations. In addition, OpenAI reduced the frequency of inaccurate claims in prompts that users previously flagged for errors.

The company also refined the model’s conversational style. Therefore, GPT-5.5 Instant now generates more concise responses with fewer unnecessary follow-up questions. At the same time, the update reduces excessive formatting and emoji-heavy outputs, creating a cleaner user experience across ChatGPT interactions.

Expanded Personalization Features

The rollout also expands ChatGPT’s personalization capabilities through deeper memory integration. As a result, GPT-5.5 Instant can reference past conversations, uploaded files, and connected Gmail accounts to provide more tailored responses. Consequently, users may need to repeat information less frequently during ongoing interactions.

OpenAI also introduced a new “memory sources” transparency feature across ChatGPT models. Therefore, users can now review where the chatbot retrieved contextual information during conversations. In addition, the system allows users to remove outdated references or correct inaccurate stored details while maintaining privacy protections for shared chats.

Rollout Across ChatGPT Plans

GPT-5.5 Instant is currently rolling out to all ChatGPT users, while advanced personalization features are arriving first for Plus and Pro subscribers on the web. Mobile access is expected soon, and additional availability for Business, Enterprise, Free, and Go tiers will follow in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, paid users will continue to access GPT-5.3 Instant for a limited transition period. The release also follows the launch of the full GPT-5.5 model in April, which expanded OpenAI’s capabilities in coding, contextual reasoning, and scientific research tasks.
