Ripple has partnered with Cross River Bank to integrate its US dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, into the bank’s core banking platform. The agreement aims to bring blockchain-based payments closer to the traditional financial system.
Through the integration, fintech companies can access RLUSD payments alongside conventional banking services through a single application programming interface (API). As a result, businesses can manage dollar transfers, stablecoin payments, and cross-border transactions through one banking connection.
The service uses Cross River’s proprietary Core Operating System (COS), with transactions supported by the XRP Ledger (XRPL). Moreover, customers can access the stablecoin without having to build or maintain their own blockchain infrastructure. Initially, however, the service remains available only in selected US states.
Connecting Stablecoin Payments With Traditional Banking
The integration allows eligible fintech clients to move between US dollars and RLUSD through Cross River’s existing banking infrastructure. In addition, they can access automated payment services, including ACH transfers, wire payments, and real-time payment networks.
The arrangement also supports cross-border payments and treasury transfers around the clock. Consequently, businesses can use the XRP Ledger to settle outside conventional banking hours while retaining access to established payment rails on the same platform.
According to Cross River, transactions on the XRP Ledger typically settle within three to five seconds, with fees amounting to fractions of a cent. Therefore, the integration offers payment networks another option for intraday settlement and faster movement of funds.
What the Partnership Means for Ripple and Cross River
Adam Goller, Head of Fintech Banking at Cross River, said businesses should not need multiple providers to move money internationally. He explained that integrating RLUSD expands the bank’s existing stablecoin capabilities and simplifies access to digital payments.
Meanwhile, Markus Infanger, Senior Vice President of RippleX at Ripple, said stablecoins can transform payments when they become part of the banking infrastructure businesses already use. He added that the partnership brings RLUSD and the XRP Ledger’s settlement capabilities into a regulated banking environment.
For Ripple, the agreement creates an additional distribution channel for RLUSD via an established US banking platform. Furthermore, it supports the company’s broader effort to expand stablecoin use across payments, financial applications, and institutional services.
Cross River, meanwhile, strengthens its position as a technology provider connecting regulated banking services with blockchain-based payment networks. However, the companies have not announced a nationwide rollout schedule or specific transaction-volume targets.
RLUSD Expands Its Role in Digital Payments
RLUSD is designed to maintain a value equivalent to one US dollar. Ripple issues a stablecoin that uses cash and short-term US government securities to support its dollar peg. The token operates on the XRP Ledger, providing a blockchain-based option for transferring dollar-denominated value.
The stablecoin has grown beyond trading applications as financial institutions explore its use in settlement and treasury operations. According to Cross River’s announcement, RLUSD has surpassed $2.5 billion in market capitalisation, with more than $1 billion issued on the XRP Ledger.
The partnership also reflects a wider effort to connect blockchain payments with existing financial infrastructure. Nevertheless, businesses must still consider regulatory requirements, transaction monitoring, conversion costs, and the availability of services in their jurisdictions.
Ultimately, integrating RLUSD into Cross River’s banking platform could make it easier for eligible fintech companies to adopt stablecoin payments. Its broader impact will depend on customer uptake, regulatory access, and the ability to deliver reliable settlement alongside conventional payment services.
