Microsoft has expanded its Copilot Cowork autonomous agent to iOS and Android devices while introducing a new plugin framework for enterprise integrations. As a result, the update broadens access to AI-driven workflow automation beyond desktop environments. The rollout currently targets customers participating in Microsoft’s Frontier early-access program.
Mobile Expansion Extends AI Workflows
Copilot Cowork Mobile enables users to start, track, and approve multi-step tasks directly from smartphones and tablets. Consequently, conversations and workflows now sync continuously between desktop and mobile devices. In addition, the agent continues operating in a sandboxed cloud environment even when users switch devices.
The mobile version also maintains enterprise approval controls for sensitive actions. Therefore, users can review and authorize tasks before the agent sends emails, updates records, or posts content in Microsoft Teams. At the same time, Microsoft aims to support flexible work environments by extending autonomous task management beyond office desktops.
Plugin Framework Connects Enterprise Systems
Microsoft also introduced a plugin framework that links Copilot Cowork with external business platforms. As a result, the agent can access data and interact with third-party enterprise systems through connected workflows. Native integrations for Dynamics 365 and Fabric IQ are already available, while additional partner integrations are expected soon.
Moreover, organizations can build custom plugins tailored to internal processes and operational requirements. Therefore, businesses can standardize repeatable workflows and extend automation across departments. Microsoft also expanded federated Copilot connectors for services including HubSpot, Moody’s, Notion, and LSEG across Microsoft 365 environments.
Enterprise Controls and Workflow Automation
The company also added support for custom skills stored as markdown-based instruction sets within OneDrive. Consequently, individuals and teams can create reusable automated workflows that Copilot Cowork can execute during conversations. The system automatically detects available skills at the start of each session.
Meanwhile, Microsoft integrated Copilot Cowork with Agent 365, its centralized governance and compliance framework. As a result, IT teams gain visibility into agent activity while maintaining existing identity, endpoint, and compliance protections. Broader availability of Copilot Cowork is expected later this year for licensed Microsoft 365 Copilot customers.
