Alibaba Launches Wan3.0 AI Video Model

Alibaba Wan3.0 AI video model

Alibaba has launched Wan3.0, its latest artificial intelligence video-generation model. The release follows the company’s HK$80 billion share placement for AI investment.

The timing highlights Alibaba’s growing focus on AI infrastructure and applications. Moreover, the new model expands the company’s generative AI portfolio beyond text and image generation.

Wan3.0 can generate videos from text, images and multiple reference assets. It can also work with documents, webpages and other structured inputs.

Wan3.0 Expands Alibaba’s AI Video Capabilities

Alibaba says Wan3.0 supports native video generation of up to 30 seconds. Furthermore, the model can combine as many as 20 reference assets within a single creative workflow.

The system also supports text-to-video and image-to-video generation. In addition, users can create videos from reference material and edit existing footage through instructions.

Wan3.0 also focuses on consistency across generated frames. Therefore, characters, objects and other visual references can remain more stable throughout a sequence.

The model adds integrated sound capabilities as well. Meanwhile, Alibaba highlights cinematic realism, physical dynamics and more detailed visual textures as key improvements.

Another feature involves advanced text rendering. The model can render long-form text across 12 languages, including charts, formulas and infographics.

Alibaba also positions Wan3.0 for professional creative applications. The company says the model has been used in films, advertising, tourism promotion and music-video production.

Launch Follows Major AI Fundraising

The Wan3.0 launch comes one day after Alibaba priced its HK$80 billion share placement. The company issued 710 million new shares at HK$112.70 each.

The offering raised about $10.2 billion and marked a major financing move for Alibaba’s AI strategy. Moreover, the company plans to direct the proceeds toward its full-stack AI capabilities.

Those investments include computing infrastructure, chips, data centres and AI model development. Therefore, Wan3.0 arrives alongside a much broader expansion of Alibaba’s AI capacity.

The company has already committed substantial capital to AI and cloud infrastructure. Alibaba previously announced plans to invest 380 billion yuan over three years in these areas.

Meanwhile, Alibaba’s AI-related cloud business continues to grow rapidly. AI Cloud and Compute Services revenue reached $7.1 billion in the latest quarter, up 45% year over year.

However, that expansion has increased near-term financial pressure. Alibaba’s quarterly net profit fell 75%, while capital expenditure rose 75% to 67.68 billion yuan.

Consequently, the Wan3.0 launch forms part of a wider effort to turn AI spending into commercial growth. Alibaba is investing across models, cloud infrastructure and AI-powered applications.

Alibaba Builds a Broader Generative AI Ecosystem

Wan3.0 also strengthens Alibaba’s position in the increasingly competitive AI video market. The company already develops Qwen models for language and multimodal applications.

In addition, Alibaba launched Qwen3.8-Max earlier in August. The model contains 2.4 trillion parameters and supports context windows of up to one million tokens.

Alibaba has also introduced QwenWork, an AI platform designed for workplace applications and agentic workflows. Therefore, Wan3.0 extends a broader strategy covering content creation, enterprise AI and autonomous software.

The company has made Wan3.0 available through its official development ecosystem. Its official repository describes the model as an open-source video-generation system with multiple creative pipelines.

At the same time, the launch comes as global AI companies compete for greater control over generative media. Video generation has become an important battleground because it connects foundation models with advertising, entertainment, commerce and digital content.

For Alibaba, the commercial question will now centre on adoption. Stronger video capabilities could generate demand for AI services while also increasing usage of Alibaba Cloud infrastructure.

The timing therefore carries strategic significance. Alibaba has raised substantial capital for AI just as it introduces another major model to the market. Its ability to convert that investment into sustained revenue will remain closely watched by investors.

Wan3.0 ultimately demonstrates how Alibaba is building an increasingly broad AI portfolio. The company is combining foundation models, cloud computing and creative tools as it seeks a larger role in the global AI economy.
