OpenAI Brings GPT-6 to ChatGPT Users

GPT-6 Intelligent UI interactive interface

OpenAI has begun rolling out GPT-6 across ChatGPT, introducing a new Intelligent UI designed to make responses more visual and interactive. The rollout began globally on October 7 for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users. Meanwhile, Free and Go users will receive access starting October 8.

The update changes how ChatGPT can present information. Instead of relying only on text, GPT-6 can combine written answers with graphics, charts, forms, buttons and interactive experiences. Moreover, it can decide which format best suits the user’s request.

OpenAI says the feature is designed for more than visual presentation. Users can also ask ChatGPT to create tools directly inside a conversation, including calculators, bill splitters and simple games.

Intelligent UI Changes ChatGPT Responses

Intelligent UI allows GPT-6 to select layouts based on the task. For example, a comparison can appear side by side, while a complex explanation can use an interactive diagram.

Similarly, users can interact with generated elements rather than simply reading them. They can change inputs, explore diagrams and work through problems step by step. Therefore, ChatGPT can adapt the interface to the task rather than forcing every request into the same format.

OpenAI built a library of native, streamable components for the system. It also developed a compiler that processes interfaces as GPT-6 generates them. As a result, interactive elements can appear progressively rather than waiting for the complete response.

The company also trained GPT-6 to make decisions about content, layout, visuals and interaction. Furthermore, OpenAI evaluates generated interfaces for clarity, usefulness and completeness.

However, the company acknowledges that Intelligent UI remains under development. Its design judgment and range of generated experiences will continue to improve.

GPT-6 Also Speeds Up Responses

GPT-6 introduces another change to how ChatGPT handles reasoning. The model can begin answering while it continues thinking or using tools.

Previously, users often had to wait for a reasoning process to finish before receiving the response. Now, GPT-6 can progressively build an answer as it continues working. Consequently, users can begin reading useful information sooner.

OpenAI reports that GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. The company also says GPT-6 makes better decisions about when to search and more reliably identifies supporting information.

In an internal evaluation of everyday agentic tasks, OpenAI said GPT-6 Extra High began answering in the same amount of time as GPT-5.6 Medium. At the same time, it achieved a higher overall score than GPT-5.6 Extra High.

The company has also updated GPT-6’s safety training. In particular, the model received additional safeguards against high-risk misuse involving cyberattacks, biological threats and violence.

OpenAI says GPT-6 showed stronger resistance to attempts to bypass safety measures during adversarial testing. It also improved at recognising its limitations and communicating when it lacks the information or tools required for an answer.

GPT-6 Reaches Free and Paid Users

GPT-6 with Intelligent UI is rolling out globally across ChatGPT. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users received access first, while Free and Go users began receiving the update on October 8. Enterprise access can still depend on workplace administrator settings.

For Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, ChatGPT uses GPT-6 Sol for the main GPT-6 experience. Free and Go users receive GPT-6 Luna. Both versions support Intelligent UI for eligible reasoning levels.

There is one important distinction for Pro users. The Pro reasoning option uses GPT-6 Astra and does not support Intelligent UI. Meanwhile, Intelligent UI is available from Instant through Extra High reasoning.

The update applies to ChatGPT’s Chat experience. However, OpenAI says the models powering Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release.

Overall, GPT-6 moves ChatGPT toward an interface that can adapt to individual tasks. Instead of presenting every answer in the same conversational structure, the system can combine information, visuals and interactive controls when they add value.

OpenAI says this direction could eventually allow people to describe what they want to accomplish and receive an experience built around that task. For now, the GPT-6 rollout marks a significant expansion of that approach across ChatGPT.
