iOS 26.2 Public Beta Brings Major AirDrop Upgrade

Apple has rolled out the second public beta of iOS 26.2 for eligible iPhones, bringing several upgrades and refinements. The most notable addition is the enhanced AirDrop capability, which allows users to share files with people outside their contacts. Users can generate a one-time AirDrop code to exchange files for up to 30 days, and they can eventually manage shared connections through the AirDrop settings.

The update also adds a redesigned Liquid Glass–style Level view inside the Measure app, and the interface now remains readable even at tricky angles. Moreover, groundwork has begun for a new side-button action setting in Japan, enabling users to choose third-party voice assistants instead of Siri.

Eligible iPhone Models

The iOS 26.2 public beta 2 supports a broad lineup of devices, ranging from the latest iPhone 17 series to older models. Supported devices include:

  • iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air
  • iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, and 16e
  • iPhone 15 series and iPhone 14 series
  • iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 models
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation and newer)

Because compatibility spans multiple generations, many users can explore the new beta without upgrading hardware.

How to Install the Public Beta

Installing the update is straightforward. Interested users must first enroll their device in Apple’s public beta program. After registration, they can navigate to Settings → General → Software Update and select Beta Updates to choose the iOS 26.2 Public Beta. Next, they must return to the Software Update screen and wait for the download prompt.

After agreeing to the terms and initiating the download, installation begins automatically. Although the beta provides new features, users are encouraged to proceed cautiously, as beta software may include bugs. Additionally, backing up the device before updating ensures data stays protected.
