Google Brings Gemini Desktop App to Windows
Google has launched the Gemini app for Windows, bringing its AI assistant directly to PCs for the first time as a dedicated desktop application.
The launch gives users a faster way to access Gemini without opening a browser. Moreover, Google has designed the app to work alongside other desktop applications and workflows.
For users in the UAE and the wider region, the Windows release provides another way to access Gemini for writing, research, file organization and creative tasks. However, feature availability can vary depending on the account, subscription and supported services.
Gemini Comes to Windows PCs
The new Gemini app opens instantly with the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut. Users can therefore access Gemini while working in another application without switching windows.
Google says the shortcut can help users check information, draft content, and generate ideas. In addition, the dedicated workspace provides access to broader Gemini capabilities.
Users can also connect Gemini with Google services such as Gmail and Google Drive. As a result, the assistant can pull relevant information into tasks such as project summaries and document preparation.
Google is also bringing its newer AI capabilities to the desktop experience. For example, users can generate images with Nano Banana and create videos using Gemini Omni.
Gemini Targets More Desktop Workflows
The Windows app also expands Google’s push toward AI agents that can handle more complex tasks. Google says users can hand multi-step work to Gemini Spark, its personal AI agent.
However, Spark’s availability currently depends on the platform and account. Google’s support documentation lists Spark on the Gemini web app, mobile app and Mac app, while availability on Windows may differ as the new desktop experience rolls out.
Meanwhile, Google says the Windows app is designed to remain lightweight while running in the background. As a result, users can keep Gemini available without significantly interrupting their existing PC workflow.
The release also strengthens Google’s competition with other AI assistants that are moving beyond browser-based chat. Microsoft already integrates Copilot into Windows, while OpenAI and Anthropic continue expanding their desktop AI offerings.
Global Windows Rollout
Google has made the Gemini app available globally for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Users can download the application directly through Google’s Gemini desktop page.
For UAE users, the rollout adds a dedicated Windows option alongside Gemini’s existing web and mobile experiences. Access to connected Google services can also make the desktop app useful for workplace and productivity tasks.
Google says the Windows release is only the beginning. The company plans to introduce additional native desktop capabilities over time, potentially making Gemini more deeply integrated into everyday PC workflows.
