Final Fantasy is a cult classic video game from the early 90s that has also found a very special place in its version on the Play Station. The gameplay and the graphics could be mesmerizing to look at; however, it is also noteworthy to mention that it promotes the aspect of environmentalism as well. While its original release was during the time that the Kyoto Protocol was adopted, the game remains extremely relevant to date.
It is essentially a role-playing game that narrates the incident of a Cloud Strife, a young mercenary who is hired to help an eco-terrorist organization known as the Avalanche and also to fight the electric power company. The storyline revolves around the fact that Cloud and his friends must stop the electric power company from completely draining the planet’s life force and ultimately save the planet.
While we do not have a malignant extraterrestrial life form on Earth currently, it is pertinent to oversee the parallels between Shinra and the modern-day fossil fuel companies. These oil and gas companies extract liquid energy from living beings, such as zooplankton and algae to produce power for domestic and commercial uses as well. It adds up to the further production of greenhouse gases, paving the way for severe climatic changes leading to deterioration.
The game also successfully highlights the climate change-related issues and the political corruption that is attached to them. It aims at the damage that is done to the planet due to the reckless acts of human beings and also devises ways in which it tries to protect itself. The gameplay also refers to weapons, which include several behemoth-sized guardians to fight the damages. It is being used as a self-defense mechanism to fight against the natural responses to human-caused climate change effects. Sea level rise, intense hurricanes, flooding, drought, and immense high temperatures have been a threat and are also wreaking havoc on life on Earth.
This has been quite controversial, as it strongly highlights the political issues and also the issues concerning the oil and gas companies. Sustenance on earth has been its sole aim, which is also a way to effectively fight climate change. There are reasons to believe that global threats would push us in a forward direction, but any lead from such technologies can surely become a mind-shifter for the general public.
