Charging Infra to be Spearheaded “for the People”

Charging Infra scaled up for the masses

The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Etihad Water and Electricity (Etihad WE) have launched UAEV, a joint venture. This venture aims to develop and promote electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the UAE. It’s the UAE’s first government-owned EV charging network, showing the nation’s commitment to sustainability and green transportation.

Electric vehicle sales are rising globally, reaching 10 million units in 2022. Therefore, the partnership between MoEI and Etihad WE aims to meet the growing demand for EV infrastructure. This initiative will help UAE residents switch to electric mobility. Moreover, it supports the country’s environmental goals.

“UAEV shows the power of partnership between government and industry,” said Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. However, he also believes it will boost EV adoption, energize communities, and unlock economic potential in the UAE.

The partnership aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy. It will speed up the switch to cleaner transportation and cut emissions from the transportation sector. “MoEI and Etihad WE together can help future-proof the UAE and achieve economic growth and climate action,” added Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI and Chairman of UAEV.

What can Charging Change?

The new EV charging infrastructure will create economic opportunities. It will support job creation and modernize the UAE’s transport network. Moreover, it will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Etihad WE serves over two million households and sees the rising environmental awareness among UAE consumers. Additionally, “Our role is to anticipate their needs and provide technology, products, tools, and infrastructure to support them,” said Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad WE and board member of UAEV.
