Grand Theft Auto VI has broken gaming industry records before its official release. According to estimates from analytics firm Newzoo, the game generated about $260 million in global digital pre-order spending during its first week. As a result, it now holds the strongest video game pre-order launch on record.

Record-Breaking Launch Builds Momentum

Pre-orders for GTA VI opened on June 25 after Take-Two Interactive confirmed a November 19, 2026 release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Standard Edition costs $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99 and includes premium vehicles, weapons, and additional story content.

According to Newzoo, the game generated around $180 million in digital pre-order revenue across the United States and the five largest European markets during its opening week. Meanwhile, global pre-order spending reached an estimated $260 million.

Furthermore, the analytics firm expects GTA VI to sell between 37 million and 51 million copies during its first week after launch. In addition, Take-Two’s fiscal year 2027 guidance filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission indicates the company expects to generate up to $1.5 billion in GTA VI revenue within less than five months of release.

Console-First Strategy Continues

Although console demand continues to rise, Rockstar Games has not confirmed a PC release date. However, the studio continues to prioritise console development before expanding to PC platforms.

This approach allows developers to optimise the game for fixed hardware before adapting it to the wider range of PC configurations. As a result, development resources remain focused on delivering the primary console version first instead of splitting efforts across multiple platforms simultaneously.

GTA VI Eyes Another Historic Milestone

The console-first strategy follows Rockstar’s long-established release pattern. Previously, both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles before arriving on PC.

Meanwhile, digital pre-loading for GTA VI begins on November 12, one week before launch. With nearly five months remaining before release, the game’s early pre-order performance suggests it could challenge the long-term success of GTA V, which has sold more than 230 million copies worldwide.
