Google Vids Adds AI Video Editing and Personal Avatars

Google Vids AI editing interface

Google has introduced two major updates to Google Vids, expanding its AI-powered video creation capabilities. The new features include Gemini Omni Flash integration for text-based video editing and personal avatars that create a digital version of users from their face and voice recordings.

AI Video Editing Through Text Prompts

Gemini Omni Flash allows users to edit existing videos using natural language prompts. Users can modify phone recordings, camera footage, and AI-generated clips without relying on traditional editing tools.

For example, the AI can improve poor lighting, remove background distractions, replace backgrounds, change product colours, adjust camera angles, and update on-screen text through conversational prompts. As a result, creators can make edits more quickly while reducing manual work.

Google also designed the feature to help businesses repurpose existing video assets. Consequently, teams can create multiple versions of a video for different campaigns or marketing tests without starting from scratch.

Personal Avatars Expand Content Creation

Google Vids now lets users generate personal AI avatars through a secure face and voice recording process linked to their Google account. After completing the setup, users can include their digital likeness in videos for social media, websites, presentations, and internal communications.

Additionally, marketers and creative teams can use these avatars to storyboard campaigns before filming live productions. However, the feature is available only to users aged 18 or older who have English selected as their primary language. Every AI-generated video also includes an invisible SynthID watermark to identify AI-created content.

Rollout Begins for Paid Users

The new features are now available to paid Google Workspace customers, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and enterprise users. Meanwhile, Workspace administrators can control feature access through the Google Help Center.

Google also revealed that more than 7 million users already use Google Vids every month. Furthermore, the latest release builds on the Gemini Omni model introduced at Google I/O 2026, which supports video generation from combinations of text, images, audio, and video inputs.
