Salik Company P.J.S.C., Dubai’s exclusive road toll operator, has renewed its technology contract with US-based TransCore for another five years. The agreement will support the continued development of Dubai’s tolling system and its underlying technologies.
The renewal extends a partnership that began in 2006. At that time, TransCore contributed to the design and development of Dubai’s original tolling system. Since then, the collaboration has expanded alongside Salik’s operational and technology requirements.
AI and Digital Technology Expansion
Under the renewed agreement, Salik and TransCore will continue developing systems that support tolling operations. Meanwhile, the companies will explore artificial intelligence and other advanced digital solutions.
These technologies could improve operational efficiency, system performance and the tolling network’s ability to meet Dubai’s future mobility needs. In addition, the agreement includes provisions for system upgrades linked to Salik’s existing services and future initiatives.
Salik Expands Beyond Tolling
The partnership will also support Salik’s broader mobility strategy. In particular, the company plans to extend its payment platform across parking payments and other current and future mobility services.
Therefore, the renewed agreement could help Salik develop a wider integrated payment platform. The company has identified technology, AI and digital solutions as key areas for expanding its mobility services.
At the same time, the financial impact is expected to remain broadly consistent with the previous contract. Salik expects annual operating expenses under the agreement to remain between 5% and 5.5% of total annual revenue.
The new agreement also introduces stronger requirements covering cybersecurity, sustainability, governance, maintenance and business continuity. Furthermore, it provides upgrades to support Salik’s expansion plans.
Long-Term Smart Mobility Partnership
TransCore’s relationship with Dubai’s tolling network now spans two decades. The company helped develop the original system before Salik began operating the toll network in 2007.
Consequently, the five-year renewal provides Salik with continued technology support as it expands into broader mobility payments. It also aligns the tolling operator’s technology roadmap with Dubai’s wider smart mobility objectives.
