A UAE-based digital Islamic community bank has partnered with an enterprise AI company to become an AI-native financial institution. The collaboration aims to integrate intelligence into customer services, operations, and risk management instead of treating AI as separate projects.
The partnership has already reached its first production milestone, with three agentic AI solutions now operating in real banking environments. These solutions improve account onboarding, document analysis, verification checks, and case summaries while allowing employees to focus on important decisions.
Building an AI-Native Banking Platform
The bank’s new AI approach uses a unified intelligence framework that supports customers, employees, operations, compliance, and risk management. Unlike traditional approaches where banks develop individual AI projects separately, this strategy creates a single governed AI system.
Additionally, the AI platform operates within the bank’s private cloud environment using open-source large language models integrated with existing banking systems. Therefore, the institution maintains full ownership and control of its AI capabilities.
The system also ensures that personal customer information remains within the bank’s infrastructure. Furthermore, every important workflow includes human oversight, allowing employees to review, approve, or override AI-driven processes when necessary.
“We didn’t set out to run AI projects we set out to build a bank where intelligence is part of the foundation,” said Christoph Koster, CEO of ruya. “As an ethical, Shari’ah-compliant bank, we hold ourselves to a high standard on how technology treats our customers and their data. This partnership lets us move fast on AI without ever compromising on that. Everything runs inside our own environment, governed end to end, with a UAE partner who shares our ambition for this country.”
Expanding AI Across Banking Services
The three active AI solutions represent the beginning of a wider technology roadmap. Moreover, future applications will include collections support, compliance assistance, credit solutions, customer AI assistants, personalization, analytics, and a secure employee assistant.
As a result, customers can expect faster responses, more personalized services, and smoother banking experiences. Because every new capability uses the same controlled platform, additional AI features can move into production faster while maintaining transparency and auditability.
“Every bank is buying AI. Very few are built for it,” said Akhil Koka, CEO of Magure. “ruya is that rare digital-first bank, with no legacy core to fight, and leadership willing to make intelligence part of the foundation rather than a project on the side. What’s live today isn’t a pilot or a demo. It’s production AI doing real work inside a regulated bank, every day.”
Koka added, “The hardest part is behind us: the platform, the governance and the sovereign foundation are in place. From here, every new capability ships on rails that already exist. This is a long-term partnership, and we’re just getting started.”
Responsible AI and Future Banking
The partnership follows the UAE’s broader goal of advancing artificial intelligence while maintaining responsible technology standards in financial services. Additionally, the AI system focuses on transparency, explainability, human supervision, and consumer protection.
The platform includes role-based access controls, centralized monitoring, cost tracking, and detailed audit records across all AI applications. Moreover, human review points are built into workflows so AI supports decisions without replacing human responsibility.
The technology provider also maintains certifications covering quality management, information security, and AI governance, providing additional assurance for regulated financial operations.
“Our customers, the UAE’s entrepreneurs, SMEs, families and communities feel this as a bank that simply moves faster and knows them better,” said Koster, CEO, ruya. “Accounts opened in a fraction of the time, transactions processed without delay, service that doesn’t sleep. That is what AI should mean for banking: invisible where it should be, and accountable everywhere.”
