Western Union has introduced Stablecard, a digital wallet and Visa-backed payment card that allows customers to receive, hold, and spend its USDPT stablecoin across 37 markets. Developed in partnership with stablecoin infrastructure provider Rain, the new service runs on the Solana blockchain and aims to simplify cross-border payments while expanding access to digital dollars.
The launch builds on Western Union’s USDPT stablecoin initiative introduced earlier this year. As a result, users can receive remittances in USDPT, store funds in a digital wallet, and spend them anywhere Visa is accepted or withdraw cash from compatible ATMs. The company plans to expand Stablecard to more than 60 markets before the end of 2026.
Stablecoin payments meet Visa’s global network
Stablecard combines a digital wallet with a USDPT-backed Visa-secured credit card. Meanwhile, the service integrates with Apple Pay and Google Pay, allowing users to make purchases at more than 175 million Visa merchant locations worldwide. Users can also transfer USDPT between the wallet and supported external wallets or cryptocurrency exchanges.
USDPT is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on the Solana blockchain and maintains a one-to-one peg with the U.S. dollar. Consequently, customers gain access to a regulated digital asset that supports faster settlement while retaining compatibility with traditional payment infrastructure.
Expanding Western Union’s digital payments strategy
The launch reflects Western Union’s broader effort to integrate blockchain technology into its global money movement network. Earlier this year, the company announced USDPT alongside a Digital Asset Network designed to support near-instant settlements and improved liquidity management across its operations. Stablecard now extends that infrastructure directly to consumers.
Rather than replacing traditional remittance services, Stablecard adds a new payment option for customers who prefer digital assets. Furthermore, Western Union’s collaboration with Rain and Visa positions the company to serve growing demand for regulated stablecoin payments while preserving access to its global remittance network.
