Dubai Airports Launches DXB Smart Gates Pre-Check

DXB Smart Gates immigration checkpoint

Dubai Airports has introduced a new Smart Gates Eligibility Pre-Check service at Dubai International Airport (DXB), allowing travelers to confirm whether they can use biometric Smart Gates before reaching passport control. Consequently, eligible passengers can prepare in advance and enjoy a faster immigration process upon arrival or departure. The online tool supports Dubai’s broader strategy of delivering a seamless and technology-driven airport experience.

Passengers can access the pre-check service through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) website. Moreover, the process takes less than a minute and requires only basic details such as a passport or Emirates ID number, date of birth, and gender. Once verified, travelers receive instant confirmation of their Smart Gates eligibility before they travel to the airport.

Faster Immigration Through Biometric Technology

Smart Gates use facial recognition and biometric verification to clear eligible passengers within seconds, eliminating the need to present passports at immigration checkpoints. Therefore, travelers experience shorter queues while airport authorities maintain high security standards. The contactless system currently serves both arriving and departing passengers at DXB and Dubai World Central (DWC).

Dubai Airports explained that the new pre-check feature helps passengers avoid uncertainty before arriving at passport control. In addition, it supports smoother passenger flow during peak travel periods by ensuring eligible travelers can proceed directly to the automated gates. The initiative forms part of Dubai’s ongoing investment in digital border technologies and smart travel services.

Supporting Dubai’s Smart Travel Vision

The launch builds on Dubai’s expanding Smart Travel ecosystem, which has already processed millions of passengers through biometric immigration. According to GDRFA Dubai, more than 9 million travelers used Smart Gates during the first half of 2026, reducing average immigration clearance times to approximately 3.4 seconds. As a result, automated processing now handles the majority of eligible passengers at DXB.

Dubai continues to invest in AI-powered and biometric airport technologies that simplify every stage of the passenger journey. Furthermore, the Smart Gates Eligibility Pre-Check complements plans to expand automated border processing, helping DXB manage rising passenger volumes while maintaining efficient and secure operations.
