Meta has acquired Conductor, an artificial intelligence startup that helps software developers coordinate multiple AI coding agents. The acquisition strengthens Meta’s efforts to expand its AI-powered software development capabilities.

The deal brings Conductor’s technology and founding team into Meta’s AI ecosystem. The startup lets developers run multiple AI coding agents simultaneously in separate workspaces.

Meta confirmed the acquisition but did not disclose its financial terms. Meanwhile, Conductor co-founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced the deal through the company’s official website.

Holtz said Conductor would join Meta and teased plans for a new developer interface. He also said he wanted to work with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s Chief AI Officer, and Nat Friedman, who leads product at Meta Superintelligence Labs.

Conductor Brings Multi-Agent Coding Capabilities to Meta

Conductor focuses on coordinating AI agents throughout software development. Its platform lets developers assign different programming tasks to multiple agents at once.

For example, one agent can write code while another reviews changes or runs tests. Meanwhile, developers can manage each agent through an isolated workspace.

This approach reduces conflicts between parallel tasks and gives engineers greater control over AI-generated work. Developers can also review results, create pull requests, and merge completed changes.

Conductor supports coding agents from major AI providers, including Anthropic and OpenAI. Rather than developing its own foundation models, the startup concentrates on managing and coordinating existing agents.

Founded in 2024, Conductor launched its core product in July 2025. The company later raised $22 million in a Series A funding round in March 2026.

Spark Capital and Matrix led the investment, with Y Combinator and other investors participating. The startup reported strong adoption among engineering teams at technology companies and established businesses.

Conductor Team Joins Meta’s AI Development Efforts

The acquisition also brings Conductor’s leadership into Meta’s AI organisation. Holtz and co-founder and CTO Jackson de Campos are joining Meta Superintelligence Labs.

They will work alongside teams led by Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman. As a result, Conductor’s experience managing multiple AI agents could support Meta’s broader developer-focused AI strategy.

However, the transition will change how existing customers access Conductor’s services.

According to the company’s acquisition announcement, the product will continue operating for now. However, Conductor Cloud will follow a phased shutdown:

  • November 4, 2026: New user registrations and app downloads stop.

  • November 13, 2026: Conductor Cloud workspaces become read-only.

  • November 20, 2026: Conductor Cloud shuts down, and the company begins deleting cloud data.

  • Early 2027: The local Mac application will begin winding down.

Meanwhile, existing users can transfer cloud workspaces to local machines and export their data. Active subscribers will also receive refunds.

Conductor plans to continue providing new models and critical bug fixes for its local application until early 2027.

Meta Strengthens Its AI Coding Strategy

The acquisition reflects Meta’s growing interest in AI-powered software development. The company wants to compete for developers who increasingly rely on autonomous coding tools.

In August 2026, Meta introduced Muse Code, its own AI coding agent. Moreover, its wider Muse AI initiative has expanded the company’s focus on autonomous systems and AI-powered productivity.

Conductor could complement these efforts by providing an interface for coordinating multiple coding agents. This capability becomes increasingly important as developers move from individual AI assistants towards teams of specialised agents.

Meanwhile, competition in AI coding continues to intensify. OpenAI has also announced plans to acquire developer-tools startup Pierre Computer, highlighting the growing importance of software development platforms.

For Meta, Conductor adds expertise in agent coordination and developer workflows. Ultimately, the acquisition positions the company to compete across both AI models and the tools developers use to build software.
