EV charging at Al Shera’a

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has installed 46 electric vehicle (EV) charging points at the parking facility of Al Shera’a, its new headquarters. As a result, the initiative strengthens Dubai’s commitment to sustainability and supports the transition toward greener mobility.

The charging network forms part of the EV Green Charger initiative. It includes 40 alternating current (AC) charging points for employees and six direct current (DC) fast chargers for visitors.

Meanwhile, Al Shera’a stands as the world’s tallest, largest, and smartest net-positive government building. The headquarters generates more clean energy than it consumes while integrating smart infrastructure that encourages environmentally friendly transportation.

Smart infrastructure supports green mobility

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA said that, “During the inauguration of Al Shera’a, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, affirmed that ‘Dubai represents a unique model where sustainability has been transformed from a strategic goal into a way of life and an everyday theme touching all aspects of society.’”

“Guided by this vision, we have ensured that Al Shera’a embodies the highest global sustainability standards, not only as a net-positive energy building that generates more clean energy than it consumes, but also as a smart, sustainable, and human-centric workplace with integrated infrastructure that supports green mobility,” the CEO added.

Al Tayer noted that, “In line with the vision of our wise leadership and the objectives of the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, we continue to strengthen Dubai’s leadership in sustainable mobility by encouraging greater adoption of EVs.”

The CEO remarked that, “We also support the emirate’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector, improve air quality and enhance quality of life, further consolidating Dubai’s position as a global model for sustainable cities.”

Dubai expands EV charging network

By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Dubai’s EV charging network had expanded to 2,223 charging points. In addition, the network includes EV Green Charger stations and facilities operated by licensed independent charge point operators in partnership with government entities and private sector organizations.

Furthermore, DEWA has introduced a comprehensive regulatory framework for EV charging infrastructure to support continued sector growth. The framework defines licensing requirements for independent charge point operators while guiding current and future infrastructure development. Consequently, it aims to strengthen Dubai’s leadership in green mobility innovation.
