The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has recognized Saudi Arabia as a leading strategic partner in shaping a sustainable global digital future. The recognition reflects the Kingdom’s expanding role in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, ICT innovation, and international collaboration. Moreover, it highlights decades of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the ITU, dating back to 1949.

Saudi Arabia Strengthens Global Digital Leadership

The ITU praised Saudi Arabia’s contributions to building an inclusive and innovative digital ecosystem. In particular, it highlighted the Kingdom’s leadership through the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and its role in establishing the Digital Regulation Network to advance global regulatory innovation and digital resilience.

Additionally, the ITU recognized the success of the CST’s Digital Regulations Academy. The program has trained more than 1,500 professionals from 190 countries in digital regulation and public policy. As a result, Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen international knowledge sharing and capacity-building efforts.

Furthermore, the organization highlighted the Kingdom’s progress in workforce diversity. Women now represent nearly 35 percent of Saudi Arabia’s ICT workforce, exceeding participation levels in both Silicon Valley and the European Union. The ITU also acknowledged the “Building a Network of Women Leaders” initiative, which aims to prepare 300 women for leadership positions while expanding mentorship opportunities across the technology sector.

Advancing Sustainable ICT and AI Innovation

The ITU also commended Saudi Arabia for promoting sustainability across the ICT sector. Through the Green Digital Action initiative, the Kingdom has championed circular economy practices and introduced the C.I.R.C.L.E.S. framework to guide sustainable digital transformation. In addition, Saudi Arabia has supported global efforts to develop e-waste management regulations and reduce carbon emissions from digital technologies.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has continued expanding its investments in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and connectivity. These investments have improved service reliability, strengthened public safety through AI-powered systems, and enhanced digital resilience. The ITU also recognized the Kingdom’s participation in the International Advisory Body on Submarine Cable Resilience, which supports secure and reliable global communications infrastructure.
