Google has introduced a new Gemini-powered feature in Google Sheets that can identify and fix formula errors with a single click. As a result, users can resolve common spreadsheet issues without manually troubleshooting complex formulas. The update aims to simplify one of the most frustrating aspects of spreadsheet work while improving productivity.
Gemini Explains and Fixes Errors Instantly
When a formula error appears, users now see a new “Fix” button after selecting the affected cell. Gemini then analyzes the surrounding data and provides a plain-language explanation of the issue. At the same time, it suggests a corrected version of the formula.
Moreover, the feature supports both simple arithmetic operations and advanced calculations. Because it works directly inside Google Sheets, users no longer need to switch tabs or search for solutions elsewhere.
The tool also goes beyond standard error detection. Instead, it reviews the broader spreadsheet context to identify the root cause of a problem. For example, it can detect mismatched ranges, missing arguments, or incorrectly formatted text criteria.
Rollout and Access Details
Google began rolling out the feature on June 22 across Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. Furthermore, the company expects full availability within 15 days.
The feature is available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, Business Standard and Plus customers, Enterprise Standard and Plus users, and Google AI Pro for Education subscribers.
Additionally, Workspace customers will receive temporary access to higher usage limits through July 15, 2026. After that date, standard per-user limits will apply. Administrators do not need extra configuration beyond enabling Gemini for Workspace in Sheets, while users must keep Workspace smart features turned on.
Expanding Gemini’s Spreadsheet Capabilities
The update builds on formula assistance tools introduced in September 2025. Previously, Gemini could suggest formulas, explain how they worked, and identify reasons for failures.
Now, however, the system takes a more proactive approach. Rather than requiring users to open a side panel and describe the issue, Gemini immediately offers a fix when it detects an error. Consequently, users can correct problems faster and continue working with minimal interruption.
