Apple Reportedly Developing Spatial iPhone With Holographic Display

Apple futuristic holographic iPhone concept display

Apple may be exploring a future iPhone capable of delivering holographic, glasses-free 3D visuals, according to recent supply chain rumours. However, the technology remains in early research and development, so consumers are unlikely to see such a device before 2030.

The speculation emerged from claims shared by a leaker known as Schrödinger on X, who posted screenshots of conversations with an unnamed insider reportedly familiar with the project. According to those claims, Samsung is developing a holographic AMOLED display codenamed MH1 or H1.

This display reportedly combines advanced eye-tracking with diffractive beam-steering technology. As a result, microscopic structures within the display would direct light toward the viewer’s eyes at precise angles, creating a 3D depth effect without requiring glasses.

Additionally, the display could feature a nano-structured holographic layer built directly into the AMOLED stack. Therefore, images may appear to float above the screen surface while standard 2D content continues to display in full 4K resolution. The holographic mode would activate only for compatible content, which could help preserve image quality.

Apple’s Spatial Ecosystem Continues to Expand

Although a holographic iPhone may still be years away, Apple has already introduced features that familiarise users with spatial experiences. For instance, iOS 26 added Spatial Scenes, which uses generative AI to transform standard 2D photos into immersive depth-enhanced visuals that respond to device movement.

The feature works on iPhone 12 and newer models without requiring Apple Intelligence. Consequently, Apple appears to be gradually introducing consumers to spatial computing through everyday smartphone experiences.

Industry observers view this as part of a broader strategy to integrate depth-based digital interactions into mainstream products. Meanwhile, supply chain speculation suggests Apple could be exploring a smartphone designed specifically around these emerging capabilities.

Smart Glasses Signal Long-Term Vision

Apple’s broader ambitions also extend beyond smartphones. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently reported that the company is testing four different smart glasses designs featuring cameras, microphones, and speakers, though no built-in visual display.

These glasses could arrive as early as late 2026, with a broader launch expected in 2027. If launched, they would compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses as well as products from Snap and Google.

Taken together, the smart glasses initiative, Vision Pro, and the rumoured spatial iPhone suggest Apple is building a long-term spatial computing ecosystem. While many of these products remain in development, the company’s direction toward immersive technology appears increasingly clear.
