Google has expanded its Gemini AI portfolio with three new models that focus on speed, affordability, and specialized enterprise use. Instead of introducing its delayed flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro model, the company released Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, and Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber to help developers build AI applications more efficiently.
The latest releases reflect Google’s strategy to deliver AI models for different workloads rather than relying on a single high-performance system. As a result, businesses now have more options based on cost, latency, and security requirements.
Gemini 3.6 Flash Leads the New Lineup
Google positions Gemini 3.6 Flash as its new general-purpose model for coding, reasoning, and multimodal tasks. Moreover, the company says the model reduces output token usage by up to 17 percent compared with Gemini 3.5 Flash, lowering operating costs while improving overall performance.
Meanwhile, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite targets developers running high-volume AI workloads. The model prioritizes speed and affordability for document processing, AI agents, and everyday automation. Consequently, organizations can deploy AI services at a lower operational cost without sacrificing reliability.
Cybersecurity Model Targets Software Protection
Google also introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, its first AI model designed specifically for cybersecurity. The model identifies software vulnerabilities and helps generate security patches through Google’s CodeMender platform. However, Google will initially limit access to governments and selected trusted partners.
According to Google, Flash Cyber has demonstrated competitive performance in vulnerability detection while operating at significantly lower costs than larger AI security models. Furthermore, the company believes affordable security-focused AI will allow organizations to conduct more frequent code reviews and improve software resilience.
Gemini 3.5 Pro Remains Delayed
Although Google announced three new models, the anticipated Gemini 3.5 Pro remains unavailable. The flagship model missed its planned launch after internal testing reportedly identified weaknesses in coding performance. Google says partner testing continues and that the model will arrive once it meets quality expectations.
At the same time, Google confirmed that work on Gemini 4 is already underway. Therefore, the company continues to invest in next-generation AI while expanding its current portfolio with faster and more cost-efficient models for developers and enterprise customers.
