Accenture Deploys Microsoft Copilot to 743,000 Employees Worldwide

Accenture Microsoft Copilot workforce rollout

Accenture is rolling out Microsoft 365 Copilot to its entire workforce of about 743,000 employees. As a result, this move marks the largest enterprise deployment of the AI assistant so far. Meanwhile, Microsoft gains a significant win as it works to expand adoption of its Copilot tools.

Although Microsoft has a massive base of over 450 million commercial 365 users, only around 3% currently pay for the Copilot add-on. Therefore, this agreement serves as a strong signal of confidence in the product. However, the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed.

From Pilot Program to Full Expansion

Initially, Accenture introduced Copilot in 2023 through a limited pilot with senior leaders. Over time, the company expanded access gradually. By November 2024, Accenture and its joint venture Avanade launched a dedicated Copilot-focused transformation practice with 5,000 employees. At the same time, they committed to increasing internal adoption to 200,000 staff.

Employees reported notable productivity gains. For example, they saved an average of 121 minutes per week, while output quality improved by 16%. Consequently, the company accelerated its rollout strategy. In February 2026, Accenture began tracking how often senior staff used AI tools, and it linked that usage to performance reviews and promotions. Moreover, CEO Julie Sweet described AI adoption as a “visible input” to career advancement.

Strengthening AI Ambitions and Partnerships

For Microsoft, this deal provides a high-profile example as it encourages broader enterprise adoption. However, a February 2026 report from Forrester found that many organizations remain 12 to 18 months away from large-scale deployments. Therefore, adoption across the market continues to move cautiously.

To address this, Microsoft has introduced new offerings. In March, it launched Microsoft 365 E7, a premium tier priced at $99 per user per month that includes Copilot and additional tools. Furthermore, the company announced the general availability of its Agent 365 product, scheduled for release on May 1.

At the same time, Accenture and Microsoft have expanded their collaboration. For instance, they introduced a forward-deployed engineering practice in March. In addition, they unveiled an “agentic factory” initiative at Hannover Messe in April. Together, these efforts highlight a broader push toward integrating AI deeply into enterprise operations.
