Ford is preparing to introduce an AI-powered assistant, starting with its smartphone app before moving into vehicles by 2027. The rollout is scheduled to begin in early 2026 through a redesigned Ford app. Moreover, the assistant runs on Google Cloud and uses large language models with deep access to vehicle-specific data. As a result, users can ask broad questions about vehicle capability as well as request real-time details such as oil life or system status. Over time, this approach aims to simplify ownership by centralizing information and reducing reliance on manuals or service visits.
Gradual Shift Toward In-Car Intelligence
After the app launch, Ford plans to integrate the assistant directly into vehicles the following year. However, the company has not detailed which models will receive priority. Still, this phased approach allows Ford to refine the experience before full in-car deployment. Meanwhile, the move signals a broader transition toward software-defined vehicles, where digital services play a growing role alongside hardware.
Next-Generation BlueCruise and Autonomous Ambitions
Alongside the AI assistant, Ford previewed a next-generation BlueCruise system that is less expensive to produce and offers expanded capabilities. The updated system will arrive in 2027 on an electric vehicle built on Ford’s low-cost platform. Additionally, the technology aims to support eyes-off driving by 2028 while also enabling point-to-point autonomous operation under driver supervision. Consequently, Ford positions itself to advance driver assistance features steadily, balancing automation progress with safety requirements.
