Meta has launched a dedicated desktop application for Meta AI on Mac. The release gives the assistant a native desktop presence while expanding its focus on creators, business owners and professionals.
The Mac application adds capabilities beyond Meta AI’s existing website and mobile experience. In particular, users can share part of their screen with the assistant. Meta AI can then use the visible content to answer questions and provide more relevant guidance.
Screen Sharing Brings More Context
The new screen-sharing feature allows Meta AI to understand what users are working on. For example, creators can show the assistant a social media draft and ask for suggestions. Businesses can also use it for guidance on posts, advertisements and other marketing content.
In addition, the Mac app supports system-wide dictation. Users can speak to Meta AI and send the resulting text into other Mac applications. This makes the assistant more closely integrated with everyday desktop workflows.
Meta is also extending the assistant’s access to business information. Professional Facebook and Instagram accounts can connect with Meta AI, while users can link Google Workspace to bring relevant documents and spreadsheets into their work.
Meta AI Targets Businesses and Creators
The expanded integrations give Meta AI access to business analytics and advertising tools. Consequently, users can ask questions about account engagement and advertising performance. They can also receive recommendations based on information from their own accounts.
Meta says users can also compare their performance with publicly available information about other brands. Therefore, the assistant can help businesses assess content strategies and refine their presence across Meta platforms.
The move follows Meta’s broader effort to make its AI assistant more capable of handling practical tasks. Earlier, the company introduced Muse Spark 1.1, which powers Meta AI and enables planning, research, slide creation and other multi-step tasks.
Moreover, Meta has been building AI tools specifically for businesses. Its Meta Business Agent can answer customer questions, recommend products, book appointments and qualify leads across supported platforms.
Meta AI Faces Strong Desktop Competition
The Mac launch puts Meta AI alongside desktop assistants from major AI companies. ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude already offer desktop experiences with varying levels of system integration.
However, Meta is taking a different route by connecting its assistant closely with its advertising and social platforms. This approach could make the application particularly useful for creators and companies that already depend on Facebook and Instagram.
The Mac app is free to use. Nevertheless, Meta has begun introducing usage limits for some advanced AI capabilities that require its Meta One subscription.
Overall, the launch expands Meta AI from a chatbot into a more integrated desktop productivity tool. At the same time, its connections to business accounts, advertising data and Google Workspace give Meta a clearer path into professional workflows.
