MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro Launches September 15
MediaTek has confirmed September 15 as the launch date for its next flagship Dimensity processor. The company will unveil the new chip at 2:30 p.m. China time.
The company has not formally confirmed the Dimensity 9600 Pro name yet. However, its latest teaser strongly points to a new Pro-branded flagship processor. Meanwhile, reports identify the chip as the Dimensity 9600 Pro.
The launch will focus on efficiency, gaming, imaging and AI-enhanced graphics. MediaTek has also teased upgraded ray tracing and improved video capabilities.
Dimensity 9600 Pro Launch Date and Details
MediaTek will hold its flagship Dimensity launch event on September 15. The presentation will begin at 2:30 p.m. China Standard Time. In India, that translates to 12 p.m. on the same day.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro is expected to become MediaTek’s first smartphone chipset based on a 2nm process. Reports point to TSMC’s second-generation 2nm N2P technology. However, MediaTek has yet to confirm the complete manufacturing specifications.
Reports also suggest MediaTek could introduce a standard Dimensity 9600 alongside the Pro model. The standard version is expected to use a 3nm process.
MediaTek has highlighted efficiency improvements as one of the new platform’s main areas. The company also says its development involved Design Technology Co-Optimisation, or DTCO, to improve performance and manufacturing efficiency.
Gaming and Imaging Features Teased
Gaming will form a major part of the Dimensity 9600 Pro’s pitch. MediaTek has teased AI-assisted GPU rendering, an upgraded Star Speed Engine and improved ray tracing.
The company also highlighted immersive ray tracing for supported games. These upgrades should target higher-quality graphics and improved visual effects on flagship smartphones.
The chipset will also focus on smartphone photography and video. MediaTek has confirmed support for 4K video recording at high frame rates, although reports differ on the exact maximum supported mode.
Gadgets 360 reports that MediaTek has specifically teased 4K recording at 120 frames per second. Meanwhile, another recent report cites 4K slow-motion recording at 240 frames per second. MediaTek has yet to publish a complete specification sheet.
Therefore, the final camera capabilities will depend on the official announcement. Phone manufacturers will also determine how much of the chipset’s imaging hardware each device uses.
Early Performance Reports and Flagship Phones
Several leaked reports have already provided clues about the processor’s architecture. According to those reports, the Pro model could feature an eight-core, three-cluster design. The configuration reportedly includes two cores at 4.55GHz, three at 4.35GHz and three at 3.10GHz.
The same reports point to an ARM Mali-G2-Ultra-NX MC12 GPU. However, these specifications remain unconfirmed until MediaTek officially reveals the chipset.
Early Geekbench results have also appeared online. One reported test recorded 4,137 points in single-core performance and 12,751 points in multi-core performance. Another report cites a multi-core score of 13,086. These figures should therefore be treated as preliminary.
Meanwhile, the Dimensity 9600 Pro is expected to power upcoming flagship smartphones. Reports have linked the processor to devices from Vivo and Oppo, including the Vivo X500 Pro Max and Oppo Find X10 Pro Max.
Vivo has already confirmed that its X500 series will launch in China on September 21. However, the company has not officially confirmed every chipset configuration across the lineup.
Consequently, September 15 should clarify the processor’s architecture, manufacturing process, AI capabilities and camera support. The launch should also establish how MediaTek plans to compete with Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship Snapdragon platform.
