Huawei Mate XT 2 Launches With Kirin 9050 Pro and Tri-Fold Display
The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design starts at CNY 19,999 in China. That price applies to the model with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage.
Meanwhile, the 512GB version costs CNY 21,999, while the 1TB configuration costs CNY 23,999.
Additionally, Huawei offers a 1TB model with a privacy display for CNY 24,999. At the top of the range, the Collector Edition provides 16GB RAM and 2TB storage for CNY 29,999.
Furthermore, buyers can choose from Dark Black, Pure White and Jin Purple colour options.
New Inward-Folding Display and Kirin 9050 Pro
Huawei says the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design has a redesigned folding mechanism compared with its predecessor. While the original used an outward-folding structure, the new phone folds inward.
According to Huawei, this architecture helps protect the display while the smartphone remains folded. Therefore, the change addresses one of the practical concerns associated with foldable screens.
When completely opened, the phone offers a 10.2-inch OLED display with 3K resolution. Additionally, the panel supports an adaptive LTPO refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz.
High-frequency PWM dimming also forms part of the display package. Meanwhile, users can access a 6.5-inch cover display when the device remains folded. The cover screen features a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Furthermore, Huawei has introduced a privacy screen feature. It can limit viewing angles from the sides, making on-screen information harder for nearby people to see.
Under the hood, Huawei uses its Kirin 9050 Pro chipset based on LogicFolding architecture. According to the company, it can deliver up to 46 percent higher performance than the Kirin 9030 Pro.
Moreover, every configuration includes 16GB of RAM. Storage options range from 256GB to 2TB, depending on the version.
Cameras, Battery and Other Key Features
For photography, the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design features a quad rear camera system inside an octagonal module.
The main camera uses a 50-megapixel 1/1.28-inch sensor. Additionally, it features a variable aperture, optical image stabilisation and an RYYB colour filter array.
Meanwhile, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide camera handles wider scenes. A separate 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera provides 3.5x optical zoom.
Furthermore, Huawei includes a dedicated multi-spectral-channel true-to-colour sensor. This additional hardware aims to improve colour reproduction across images.
For selfies and video calls, Huawei provides 8-megapixel front cameras on both the cover and internal screens. Therefore, users can access a front-facing camera in different folding configurations.
Finally, a 5,600mAh battery powers the Mate XT 2. Combined with 66W wired charging, the battery system supports the demanding hardware and large foldable display.
