Oman has chosen Shahin as the name for its national electric-vehicle charging application. The name was selected after a public survey conducted by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology. The app will unify access to all EV charging operators under a single platform, simplifying payments and sessions for drivers.
Platform purpose and regional plans
Moreover, the Shahin platform supports the government’s green mobility and net-zero ambitions. Additionally, future expansion may connect charging networks across Gulf countries to boost regional cooperation. The system will integrate operator data and offer seamless user access, thereby reducing friction for EV owners.
Progress on clean mobility and infrastructure
Oman has already started transitioning fleets and piloting hydrogen and electric solutions. Meanwhile, the country installed over 150 EV chargers by the end of 2024 and registered more than 1,500 electric cars. Furthermore, biofuel deployment, smart emissions systems, and hydrogen truck corridor plans are advancing national sustainability targets. In short, Shahin will serve as a key digital tool to accelerate those efforts.
