Amazon-backed Anthropic has announced that it will provide its Claude AI model to the U.S. government for just $1. This move places the company alongside other AI startups vying for federal contracts through competitive offers.
The announcement follows recent approval of Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Google’s Gemini for use by U.S. government agencies. This list of approved AI vendors aims to expand the federal government’s access to advanced and secure AI tools.
Strengthening Government AI Access
CEO Dario Amodei emphasized the importance of equipping government institutions with cutting-edge technology. “America’s AI leadership requires that our government institutions have access to the most capable, secure AI tools available,” he stated.
With this initiative, Anthropic seeks to strengthen public sector adoption of AI while ensuring affordability. The move mirrors rival OpenAI’s recent $1 offer, which makes ChatGPT Enterprise available to participating U.S. federal agencies for a year at the same symbolic price.
Competitive AI Landscape
Such symbolic pricing strategies are becoming more common as AI companies aim to secure long-term government partnerships. By offering premium AI models at nominal costs initially, these firms hope to encourage widespread adoption and demonstrate the value of their solutions.
