Samsung Electronics has rolled out ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex across its global workforce, marking one of the largest enterprise AI deployments signed by OpenAI. The rollout covers all employees in South Korea as well as staff across the Device eXperience (DX) division worldwide.
From Internal Ban to Enterprise-Wide Adoption
The move represents a significant shift in the company’s AI strategy. In 2023, Samsung prohibited the use of generative AI tools after employees accidentally exposed proprietary code through ChatGPT. However, the company began reconsidering its approach in late 2025 when its IT services arm entered a reseller partnership with OpenAI.
As a result, employees can now use ChatGPT Enterprise for information research, data analysis, document creation, idea generation, and knowledge management. At the same time, Codex enables both technical and non-technical teams to build software, internal tools, websites, and automated workflows while operating within established security and governance standards.
AI Transformation Driven by a Multi-Model Approach
The ChatGPT Enterprise deployment forms part of Samsung’s broader AI transformation initiative announced earlier this month. Rather than depending on a single AI provider, the DX division officially introduced three enterprise AI platforms on June 12: ChatGPT, Gemini Enterprise, and Claude.
Meanwhile, the semiconductor division expanded access to ChatGPT after previously relying on Claude. Additionally, Gemini is expected to become available to that division later this year. This multi-model strategy allows different teams to select AI tools that best match their business requirements.
OpenAI also reported growing demand for its coding assistant. More than 5 million people now use Codex weekly across both technical and non-technical roles. Furthermore, weekly active Codex users in South Korea have increased nearly 800% since February 1, 2026.
Strategic Relationship Continues to Expand
The enterprise software agreement builds on a broader partnership announced in September 2025. At that time, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman signed a letter of intent related to advanced memory chip supply for OpenAI’s Stargate data center project.
Moreover, both companies had already begun exploring wider workplace adoption of ChatGPT to support AI-driven productivity and digital transformation efforts. Consequently, the latest deployment strengthens collaboration between the two organizations while accelerating the use of generative AI across Samsung’s global operations.
