Netflix Increases Subscription Rates Following Record-Breaking Subscriber Growth
Netflix has announced a significant price adjustment across all its U.S. subscription tiers, marking the first increase for its ad-supported plan. The ad-supported tier, which debuted at $7 per month in 2022, will now cost approximately $8. Meanwhile, the standard ad-free plan has risen to $18, a $3 increase, and the premium plan now costs $25, reflecting a $2 hike.
This move comes as Netflix reports its largest-ever quarterly subscriber gain, adding 18.9 million users in Q4 2024 and surpassing 300 million global subscribers. The surge is attributed to the platform’s expansion into live content, including the highly successful Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match and its inaugural NFL Christmas game broadcast, both achieving record viewership.
Original programming continues to drive engagement, with the second season of Squid Game garnering 68 million viewers in its debut week.
In addition to the price changes, Netflix has introduced a new “Extra Member With Ads” feature, enabling ad-supported users to add external members for $8 monthly, similar to the $9 fee for ad-free subscribers’ additional users.
The price adjustments and new features underline Netflix’s continued investment in exclusive programming, live content, and enhanced subscriber offerings.
