Microsoft Launches Agent 365 for Secure AI Agent Governance in Enterprises

Microsoft has introduced Agent 365 for commercial customers, marking a major step in enterprise AI management. Notably, the release follows its earlier announcement at Microsoft Ignite 2025 and arrives as scheduled in May 2026. As a result, the platform stands out as one of the most significant updates to Microsoft 365 since the debut of Microsoft Copilot.

Agent 365 delivers a centralized control layer that allows organizations to observe, govern, and secure AI agents. In particular, it enables IT, security, and business teams to manage agents built internally or sourced externally. Moreover, the system organizes capabilities around observability, governance, and security. To achieve this, it integrates tools such as Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Intune.

Furthermore, Defender introduces an AI agent inventory for discovery and posture management. At the same time, each agent receives an Entra Agent ID, which enables identity-based controls like conditional access and lifecycle oversight. In addition, Purview applies inline data loss prevention by inspecting prompts before processing. Consequently, organizations gain deeper visibility and stronger safeguards across their AI environments.

Expanding Ecosystem and Multicloud Support

At launch, Agent 365 arrives alongside a growing partner ecosystem. For example, Genspark has integrated its AI agents for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations directly into the platform. Similarly, Kore.ai and Reply joined as early partners. Meanwhile, the open-source workflow platform n8n now operates as a fully integrated participant, allowing its agents to receive governed identities.

In addition, Agent 365 supports multicloud deployments, which broadens its enterprise appeal. Organizations can build and run agents on AWS Elastic Beanstalk or Google Cloud Run. However, they can still rely on Entra and Graph for identity and governance. Therefore, companies can maintain consistent control even across diverse cloud environments.

Compliance Pressure and Enterprise Readiness

The timing of this release is especially relevant in Europe, as the EU AI Act becomes fully applicable in August 2026. Consequently, Agent 365’s registry, identity controls, and compliance tools may help organizations prepare for regulatory requirements. However, companies must still align these capabilities with rules on risk management, transparency, and human oversight.

Additionally, Windows 365 for Agents extends the platform into cloud-based environments. It introduces features such as check-in and check-out models for temporary workloads. At the same time, it supports human-in-the-loop controls, which reinforce responsible AI use.

“You can’t govern what you can’t see,” noted one consultancy preparing customers for the rollout — a sentiment that highlights both the opportunity and the urgency as AI agents transition into production.
