Meta Platforms Launches Paid AI Plans Across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp

Meta AI subscription plans launch

Meta Platforms has started rolling out its first paid subscriptions for the Meta AI chatbot, marking a major step in the company’s effort to generate new revenue from artificial intelligence services. The launch introduces a two-tier pricing system while Meta continues investing heavily in AI infrastructure and advanced computing systems.

The entry-level plan, called Meta One Plus, costs $7.99 per month. It targets users who regularly use Meta AI for image generation, video creation, and longer reasoning tasks. Meanwhile, the higher-tier Meta One Premium subscription costs $19.99 per month and provides expanded capabilities for complex queries, deeper reasoning, and advanced media generation across Meta’s platforms.

However, Meta AI will still remain free for casual users. The paid plans mainly focus on users who require stronger AI performance and higher usage limits. Testing for the subscriptions will initially begin in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia.

Meta One Expands Across Apps

In addition to AI subscriptions, Meta also launched app-specific premium plans under a unified brand called “Meta One.” Instagram Plus will cost $3.99 per month, Facebook Plus will also cost $3.99 monthly, and WhatsApp Plus will launch at $2.99 per month.

These subscriptions introduce additional features such as profile customization, enhanced reactions, and advanced story insights. As a result, Meta aims to create a connected premium ecosystem across its major social media platforms.

Separately, the company plans to test professional subscription services for creators and businesses in countries including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh. The Meta One Essential plan, priced at $14.99 per month, will provide verification badges and impersonation protection. Meanwhile, the Meta One Advanced plan, which costs $49.99 monthly, adds improved visibility in feeds and search rankings.

Subscription Strategy Targets AI Spending

The subscription rollout arrives as Meta continues spending heavily on artificial intelligence infrastructure and computing resources. Earlier in 2025, the company signaled plans for a paid Meta AI tier, while broader testing discussions continued throughout the year.

In January 2026, Meta confirmed it would expand premium subscriptions across its apps with stronger AI features and additional tools. Therefore, the latest rollout reflects a wider industry trend where companies monetize advanced AI capabilities through subscription models.

Naomi Gleit, a Meta executive, said the company remains in an experimental phase with both its AI and professional subscription plans. However, she added that Meta intends to gradually unify these services under the Meta One brand while continuing to introduce updates over time.
