Tesla Roadster Set for October 1 Unveiling After Years of Delays
The long-awaited second-generation Tesla Roadster could finally make its public debut on October 1.
Roadster Reveal Set for October
On Saturday, the electric vehicle maker posted “Go for launch,” alongside a graphic displaying the date “10.01.” Therefore, the message strongly indicates that the new Roadster will be unveiled on October 1.
Moreover, the graphic appears to hint at the cold-gas thrusters previously promised for the sports car. Elon Musk has said these optional thrusters could allow the Roadster to fly in some form. SpaceX, another company led by Musk, developed the technology behind the proposed system.
Tesla first announced its second-generation sports car in November 2017. However, the project has faced repeated delays since then.
The prolonged wait even sparked a social media dispute between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman last year. Altman said that “7.5 years has felt like a long time to wait” after paying a $50,000 reservation fee, while Musk insisted that Altman had gotten a refund.
A New Design May Replace the Original
Meanwhile, recent reporting indicated that the 2017 version of the Roadster had been abandoned entirely. Instead, the company reportedly developed a new design that has yet to be publicly revealed.
Consequently, the vehicle shown in October could differ substantially from the Roadster originally presented nearly nine years ago. The possible redesign adds another element of uncertainty to a project already marked by years of delays.
Production Will Still Take Time
Even after the October unveiling, buyers may still face a lengthy wait before the Roadster reaches production. Musk has previously acknowledged that manufacturing will not begin immediately after the vehicle’s reveal.
Instead, he has indicated that production could start another 12 to 18 months later. Therefore, although October 1 could finally bring a look at the new Roadster, its arrival on public roads remains further away.
