Meta has started rolling out Pocket, a new social app that allows users to create, share, and discover interactive mini-games using AI-powered text prompts. The launch expands the company’s growing lineup of standalone AI creation tools.
Pocket turns text prompts into interactive experiences
Pocket revolves around what Meta calls “gizmos,” which are AI-generated interactive experiences that users can play instantly. Simply entering a text prompt creates a mini-game or interactive activity that users can share through the app’s social feed.
Additionally, gizmos respond to touch, phone movement, sound effects, and music. They can also access a device’s camera or photo library to create more immersive experiences. Meanwhile, Meta has made Pocket available in select regions as it continues testing the app before a broader release.
Built on Atma Sciences technology
Pocket originated from Meta’s acquisition of the team behind Atma Sciences Inc. earlier this year. The startup previously developed an app called Gizmo that focused on AI-generated interactive content.
Furthermore, Meta secured a non-exclusive license to Atma Sciences’ technology, although the financial terms remain undisclosed. As a result, the acquisition provided both the technical foundation and development team needed to build Pocket as a standalone application.
Meta expands its standalone AI ecosystem
Pocket marks Meta’s latest effort to bring AI-powered creative tools beyond Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Previously, the company introduced the standalone Vibes app for AI-generated video after strong engagement with similar features in the Meta AI app.
Meanwhile, the Meta AI app continues to serve as a central hub for generative AI tools, while Pocket and Vibes focus on specific creative experiences. In addition, Pocket’s social feed lets users browse and interact with gizmos created by people around the world, encouraging discovery and community engagement.
