Alibaba Unveils Qwen Book AI-Powered Laptop
Alibaba has unveiled Qwen Book, an AI-powered personal computer designed around intelligent agents. The company introduced the device at its 2026 Apsara Conference in Hangzhou, China.
Unlike conventional laptops, Qwen Book integrates AI models, operating system functions, applications, and cloud services. Consequently, users can interact with AI agents directly through the computer’s hardware and software.
The announcement marks Alibaba’s expansion into AI-native computing. Moreover, the company aims to make AI agents an integral part of everyday computer use.
Qwen Book Brings AI Button and AI Island
Qwen Book features a detachable keyboard, allowing users to switch between laptop and tablet configurations. Additionally, its dedicated AI button provides quick access to the integrated assistant.
The keyboard also features AI Island, a separate display that shows the progress of ongoing AI tasks. Therefore, users can track agent activity without opening the main application.
Another feature is the voice-enabled stylus, which allows users to communicate with the AI assistant. By pressing the stylus tip, users can issue voice commands while working.
Furthermore, the device includes a dual-camera system, a small circular rear display, and a large touchpad. Alibaba is positioning these components as part of an integrated computing experience.
Alibaba Integrates Qwen Models and Omarchy OS
Qwen Book follows Alibaba’s “OS as Harness” approach, which connects AI models, software, hardware, and cloud services. As a result, agents can understand context, access applications, and carry out tasks across the system.
The device integrates Alibaba’s Qwen AI models and supports continuous context and task execution. Moreover, Alibaba is working with the Omarchy Linux desktop community to develop an operating system suited to agent-based computing.
Omarchy’s developer, David Heinemeier Hansson, confirmed Alibaba Cloud’s $3 million commitment to the Omacom Foundation over three years. The partnership will also support Omarchy’s development and accessibility in China.
Alibaba says the initial Qwen Book release will use ARM architecture, with compatibility planned for both ARM and x86 systems. However, the company has not announced final retail pricing or a general sales date.
Qwen Book Testing and Availability
Alibaba is recruiting participants for an early testing program. The company plans to select approximately 100 testers, with applications running through October 31, 2026. Furthermore, the first testing experience is planned for December.
The rollout will allow Alibaba to gather feedback before broader availability. Meanwhile, the company continues to develop its AI hardware ecosystem, including smart glasses, earbuds, and other devices powered by Qwen.
