Hyundai’s luxury brand introduced the Genesis GV90, an all-electric large SUV that represents a new direction for premium mobility. Moreover, the seven-seat EV expands the Genesis lineup in the U.S. to seven vehicles and strengthens its position in the luxury segment.
The GV90 is the largest vehicle Genesis has offered since entering the U.S. market a decade ago. Additionally, it will compete with models such as the Cadillac Vistiq, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, and Rivian R1S in the large electric SUV category.
Design, production, and premium features
The GV90 brings a fresh design approach while combining luxury styling with advanced electric technology. Furthermore, Hyundai will produce the vehicle at a new facility in Ulsan, South Korea. The SUV will reach U.S. markets early next year.
However, the brand will reveal pricing details closer to the launch date. Meanwhile, Genesis has not confirmed hybrid or gasoline versions of the GV90, although it offers those options on models like the GV70 SUV and G80 sedan.
The SUV will come in multiple configurations. For example, the GV90 Neolun features coach doors that open from the center of the vehicle. Additionally, standard GV90 trims include traditional swing doors. The First Edition model adds special badging, wool cashmere materials, and premium interior finishes.
The coach doors, also called suicide doors, remain uncommon in the automotive industry. Nevertheless, they allow easier passenger access while creating additional engineering challenges for safety standards.
Performance, technology, and market growth
The GV90 uses a high-performance electric motor system that produces up to 490 kilowatts, equal to around 660 horsepower. Additionally, it delivers 800 Newton-meters of torque and provides an expected driving range of about 310 miles.
Furthermore, the SUV features a vehicle-wide dual light design that connects at the center. This styling element follows the direction shown by the Neolun concept vehicle in 2024.
The GV90 enters the market as electric vehicle demand continues to shift in the U.S. In addition, EV sales have slowed over the past year after federal incentives ended, including support of up to $7,500 for EV purchases.
Despite these challenges, Genesis continues to improve its sales performance. In fact, U.S. sales increased by around 5% during the first six months of the year compared with the previous year. The brand reached 39,088 units and recorded 22 consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth.
Overall, the Genesis GV90 marks an important step in Hyundai’s luxury EV strategy. Therefore, its premium design, advanced technology, and electric performance position it as a strong competitor in the luxury SUV market.
