Google Expands AI Study Tools Across Search Gemini

Google AI study tools interface

Google is expanding its AI-powered learning tools across Search and Gemini. The company announced new interactive visuals, 3D simulations, practice quizzes and student-focused features.

The updates aim to help students understand difficult subjects, prepare for exams and organize coursework. Meanwhile, Google is positioning Gemini as a more comprehensive study assistant as competition in AI-powered education grows.

Search Adds Interactive Learning Features

Google Search can now create interactive visuals and simulations for complex topics. For example, students studying pH levels can generate an interactive pH scale through an AI Overview. They can then ask follow-up questions for more specific visual explanations.

In addition, Search now generates customized practice quizzes across subjects. Students can request quizzes for science, mathematics, humanities and foreign languages. They can also tailor questions to specific exams, including SAT preparation.

Google is also preparing an upgraded Lens learning experience. In the coming weeks, students will be able to photograph worksheets or study materials. Lens can then explain concepts, identify potential mistakes and offer guidance when students get stuck.

Furthermore, students can upload files such as PDFs, documents and presentations to Search. The system can create study documents from those materials. For instance, handwritten notes and lecture slides can become a concise one-page summary of key concepts.

Gemini Adds Research and 3D Learning

Gemini is also gaining new tools designed for deeper study. Students can launch multi-step research through Gemini Live and continue discussing the results once the report is complete.

Importantly, Gemini can conduct the research in the background. Students can close the chat or lock their phones while the process continues. Once the report is ready, Gemini sends a notification and allows users to discuss the findings conversationally.

Moreover, Gemini can now create functional 3D simulations. These responses can include tables, grids and interactive models tailored to individual prompts. For example, students can explore a three-dimensional DNA structure by rotating and zooming into it.

Google is also adding a dedicated student hub inside Gemini. The hub brings study notebooks, flashcards and practice quizzes together in one location. Therefore, students can access several learning tools without moving between separate features.

The company’s study notebooks can also analyze uploaded course materials. They can identify knowledge gaps through diagnostic quizzes, create bite-sized lessons and track progress through a dashboard. In addition, Gemini can schedule important dates in Google Calendar from a syllabus with the student’s permission.

Google Expands Its Student AI Offering

Google is pairing the new features with a student-focused subscription offer. Eligible college students in the United States can receive one year of Google AI Pro at no cost. Outside the US, eligible students in more than 140 markets can receive a year of Google AI Plus.

The US Pro offer includes higher Gemini usage limits, Gemini Spark, Gemini features in Google applications and 5TB of storage. Meanwhile, the international AI Plus offer includes Gemini Omni, higher usage limits and 400GB of storage.

The broader strategy connects Google’s Search and Gemini products around education. Search handles discovery, visual explanations and quizzes, while Gemini provides longer-running research, study planning and interactive learning experiences.

Consequently, Google is moving beyond AI answers toward tools that support an entire study workflow. The company is also making its AI products more useful for students who need research, revision and organization in one ecosystem.
