OpenClaw has launched native mobile applications for iOS and Android, bringing its open-source AI agent platform to smartphones for the first time. The new apps connect users’ phones to a self-hosted OpenClaw Gateway, allowing the AI agent to access mobile capabilities such as the camera, location, voice, and notifications. Consequently, users can manage tasks and automate workflows directly from their mobile devices.
Unlike traditional AI chatbot apps, the mobile applications function as companion clients rather than standalone assistants. Therefore, the AI agent continues running on a separate self-hosted Gateway while the smartphone securely provides additional sensors and device features.
Smartphones Become AI Agent Nodes
The new mobile apps enable OpenClaw to use smartphone hardware for real-world automation tasks. For example, users can allow the AI agent to access the camera, photos, contacts, reminders, calendar, screen, or location after granting explicit permission. In addition, the apps support voice interaction and a Canvas feature for richer AI-assisted workflows.
Each phone pairs securely with the Gateway through an approval process. As a result, users retain full control over which permissions the AI agent receives and which actions it can perform. Furthermore, privacy-sensitive functions remain disabled until users explicitly authorize them.
OpenClaw describes its platform as “The AI that actually does things,” highlighting its ability to automate emails, calendars, travel check-ins, and other everyday tasks through messaging apps and connected services.
Privacy-Focused Design Supports Automation
OpenClaw continues emphasizing a self-hosted architecture instead of relying entirely on cloud infrastructure. Consequently, users keep their data and automation workflows on hardware they control while integrating with external AI models when needed.
The release also reflects growing demand for AI agents that move beyond conversations to complete real-world actions. Meanwhile, OpenClaw’s mobile expansion allows developers and advanced users to extend automation workflows across desktop and smartphone environments.
As competition in the AI agent market intensifies, OpenClaw’s native mobile applications strengthen its ecosystem while expanding access to autonomous, privacy-focused digital assistants. Consequently, users can automate more everyday tasks without giving up control of their data or infrastructure.
