Microsoft Build 2026 Opens With AI Agents and Nvidia-Powered Windows PCs
Microsoft will kick off its annual Build developer conference on June 2, with CEO Satya Nadella set to deliver the opening keynote. The two-day event, held at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, highlights the company’s growing focus on artificial intelligence and developer tools.
The keynote is expected to emphasize the evolution of AI assistants into autonomous digital coworkers. Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced Agent Mode in Microsoft 365 Copilot, making it the default experience across applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. As a result, users can delegate more complex and long-running tasks to AI systems.
Meanwhile, the conference agenda includes more than 90 sessions covering agentic AI, Azure AI Foundry, GitHub Copilot, and on-device AI features for Windows. In addition, recently launched computer-using agents can now interact directly with websites and desktop applications through standard user interfaces, expanding the practical capabilities of AI-powered automation.
Nvidia-Powered Windows PCs Take Center Stage
Alongside its AI initiatives, Microsoft is expected to unveil the first Windows PCs powered by Nvidia’s Arm-based processors. The announcement is likely to take place during both Build 2026 and the Computex technology exhibition in Taiwan.
The new devices are expected to include models from the Surface lineup as well as systems from Dell Technologies. Furthermore, Microsoft and NVIDIA recently hinted at the launch through coordinated social media posts featuring the message, “A new era of PC.”
At the same time, Microsoft secured a major government agreement worth $9.69 billion over five years. The contract consolidates enterprise software licensing across military services, intelligence agencies, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Consequently, officials expect the arrangement to reduce costs significantly by simplifying software license management and eliminating duplication.
What Developers Can Expect
Although in-person tickets cost nearly $1,100, much of the event will be available online at no charge. Therefore, developers and technology enthusiasts worldwide can follow the announcements and technical sessions remotely.
Industry observers do not expect major consumer-focused product launches, such as a new Windows version or significant Surface hardware updates beyond the Nvidia collaboration. Instead, the conference will primarily serve as a platform for developers.
Sessions will focus on multi-agent orchestration, responsible AI development, and local AI processing using NPUs and GPUs on Copilot+ PCs. As a result, Build 2026 is positioned as a showcase for the next generation of AI-powered software and computing experiences rather than a traditional consumer hardware event.
