Ericsson Launches Cradlepoint W2255 Enterprise 5G Adapter

Ericsson Cradlepoint W2255 5G adapter

Ericsson on Thursday introduced the Cradlepoint W2255, a next-generation 5G adapter designed to strengthen enterprise wireless infrastructure. At the same time, the company unveiled upgraded NetCloud orchestration tools and announced a FedRAMP High partnership with Axon. The launch reflects growing enterprise demand for resilient connectivity as outage-related costs continue to rise.

5G Adapter Targets High-Availability Networks

The Cradlepoint W2255 runs on 3GPP Release 17 standalone 5G technology and features an IP67-rated design for indoor and outdoor deployment. In addition, the adapter supports Dual SIM and Dual Standby on a single modem, which enables faster carrier failover during connectivity disruptions.

The platform also introduces 5G multi-slice capability through the User Equipment Routing Selection Policy. As a result, enterprises can separate mission-critical traffic from lower-priority network activity. For example, businesses can route payment transactions through dedicated high-priority slices while assigning general traffic to secondary channels.

Furthermore, the adapter integrates low-Earth-orbit satellite connectivity. NetCloud automatically detects satellite traffic and displays telemetry within the same management dashboard. When combined with Ericsson E-series routers, the infrastructure can support up to five cellular and four satellite connections simultaneously.

FedRAMP Partnership and Channel Growth

Alongside the hardware launch, Ericsson and Axon introduced a FedRAMP High authorized connectivity platform for public safety fleets. The solution hosts NetCloud inside Axon’s FedRAMP environment and supports applications such as in-vehicle video systems and mobile connectivity tools.

The offering targets law enforcement and government agencies that require strict federal security compliance. Moreover, Ericsson confirmed the solution will become available during the second quarter of 2026.

Separately, Westcan Advanced Communications Solutions joined Ericsson’s channel partner program. Consequently, the company will distribute enterprise wireless WAN, private 5G, and enterprise coverage solutions across Western Canada and northern territories.

Enterprises Prioritize Network Stability

Ericsson positioned the launch toward sectors such as retail and manufacturing, where AI-driven operations increasingly depend on uninterrupted connectivity. At the same time, enterprises continue to expand data-intensive workloads across distributed environments.

The updated NetCloud platform, therefore, focuses on enterprise-scale visibility, automation, carrier profile management, and policy-based controls. As businesses adopt more AI-powered systems, wireless WAN infrastructure is evolving from a backup layer into a central operational requirement.
