Meta Platforms announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services to deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton cores across its infrastructure. As a result, Meta strengthens its position as one of the largest Graviton customers globally. Moreover, the agreement expands an existing cloud relationship while reflecting a broader shift toward purpose-built silicon for AI workloads.
The deployment focuses on powering agentic AI systems, which require significant CPU resources for multi-step reasoning and execution. Therefore, Meta plans to begin with tens of millions of cores, while maintaining flexibility to scale further as demand increases.
Graviton5 Targets High-Performance AI Tasks
AWS introduced Graviton5 in December 2025 with 192 Arm-based cores built on a 3nm process. Consequently, the chip delivers improved performance and increased cache capacity compared to earlier versions. These enhancements support workloads that demand high bandwidth and fast data processing.
As agentic AI systems grow more complex, they require efficient compute infrastructure to handle continuous reasoning and execution. Accordingly, Graviton5 aligns with these needs by offering optimized performance for large-scale AI operations.
Rising Demand and Meta’s Diversified Strategy
The partnership emerges amid strong demand for AWS custom silicon, particularly for AI-driven applications. At the same time, major technology firms continue to invest heavily in similar infrastructure strategies. Therefore, competition for advanced computing resources has intensified across the industry.
Meta complements this agreement with a broader approach that combines external partnerships and in-house development. While the company expands its use of cloud-based CPUs, it also invests in proprietary accelerators and data center capacity. As a result, Meta builds a diversified infrastructure designed to support long-term AI growth and large-scale deployment.
