Microsoft Copilot update adds Mico avatar, long-term memory, and health tools

Copilot Mico avatar with new features

The latest Copilot Fall Update introduces several upgrades designed to make the AI assistant more interactive, personal, and intelligent. At the heart of the release is Mico, a new animated avatar that gives Copilot a friendly face for the first time. Short for Microsoft Copilot, Mico reacts through facial expressions, gestures, and colour shifts during conversations, making voice chats feel more human and empathetic.

In addition, the update adds ‘Real Talk’, a feature that encourages open and thoughtful discussions. Instead of simply agreeing with users, Copilot now challenges ideas and adjusts its tone to fit different conversation styles. Meanwhile, a new Groups option turns Copilot into a shared workspace where up to 32 users can brainstorm, vote, and assign tasks together. It also summarises conversations to keep everyone in sync.

Memory, Integrations, and Smart Tools

Another major enhancement is long-term memory, which allows Copilot to remember user details, preferences, and ongoing tasks. This memory can be managed anytime under Memory & Personalisation, giving users control over what Copilot recalls. Because it can reference previous chats, users no longer need to repeat background details in every session.

Copilot is also becoming more connected through third-party integrations. With new connectors, it can access content from OneDrive, Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar. As a result, searching for documents, emails, or events becomes seamless.

Beyond productivity, the update introduces two specialised tools — Copilot for Health and Learn Live. Copilot for Health provides trustworthy medical guidance sourced from verified references like Harvard Health. It can even suggest doctors by location, language, or specialisation. On the other hand, Learn Live offers a more interactive educational experience. Using a Socratic, voice-based approach, it helps students explore topics through guided lessons and visual explanations instead of giving quick answers.

Edge Upgrades and Unified Search

The update also transforms how Copilot works inside the Edge browser. A new Copilot Mode brings agentic capabilities, allowing the assistant to analyse open tabs, summarise content, and even complete actions like booking hotels or filling out forms. Another feature, Journeys, automatically organises browsing sessions by topic, helping users revisit research more efficiently. Importantly, these capabilities include opt-in privacy settings for greater control.

Lastly, Unified Copilot Search now combines AI-generated insights with standard web results, displaying both together in a single, easy-to-navigate view. Because of this streamlined layout, users can switch between verified sources and AI summaries without losing context.
