BYD and Al-Futtaim Unveil 5-Minute EV Megawatt Charging in UAE

BYD unveils Megawatt Flash Charger in UAE

BYD, in collaboration with Al-Futtaim, has introduced its Megawatt Flash Charging technology in the UAE. The innovation directly addresses charging anxiety, a major hurdle for electric vehicle adoption. With this technology, charging speeds rival traditional petrol refueling, aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 vision.

The system, part of BYD’s Super e-Platform, can add 400 kilometers of range in just five minutes. This achievement makes electric vehicle ownership far more practical for both residents and businesses. Moreover, the initiative strengthens efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector while boosting confidence in sustainable mobility solutions.

Industry Leaders Highlight Commitment

Lucas Bellieud, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, said: “Al-Futtaim’s vision for a greener planet aligns perfectly with the UAE’s commitment to a sustainable future, as outlined in its Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. We are incredibly proud to bring BYD’s Megawatt Flash Charging technology to the UAE, offering a recharge of 400km in just 5 minutes. This breakthrough makes charging as quick as refuelling a gasoline car, eliminating one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption. It enhances the EV ownership experience while directly supporting the nation’s ambitious environmental goals and accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility across the Emirates.”

Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, added: “BYD is dedicated to bringing the best experience to the market. With the BYD Megawatt Flash Charging stations, we offer to our customers a charging speed of 2 km in every second and 400 km range in 5 minutes, achieving the same speed of filling gas.”

Advanced Ecosystem for Widespread Adoption

Beyond charging speed, BYD has developed the world’s first all-liquid-cooled Megawatt Flash Charging terminal system. With a maximum output capacity of up to 1360kW, the system creates a comprehensive charging ecosystem. This ensures efficiency, durability, and scalability for large-scale deployment across the UAE.

Ultimately, the initiative sets a global benchmark for rapid EV charging, enhances convenience for drivers, and accelerates the nation’s shift toward sustainable mobility.
