ChatGPT Adds AI Virtual Try-On Feature

ChatGPT AI virtual clothing try-on

OpenAI has introduced a virtual try-on feature for clothing and accessories in ChatGPT. The update expands the platform’s shopping capabilities and lets users preview products using their own photos.

The feature adds a new “Try on” button to eligible clothing and accessory listings. Users can then upload a selfie to generate a visual preview. Alternatively, they can upload a product image or screenshot and ask ChatGPT to show how it could look on them.

How ChatGPT Virtual Try-On Works

First, users select a clothing or accessory item from ChatGPT’s shopping results. Next, they choose the “Try on” option and provide a selfie or full-body image.

ChatGPT then generates an image showing the selected item on the user. The feature uses ChatGPT Images 2.5, OpenAI’s latest image-generation model. The company says the model provides more natural lighting, richer textures and better preservation of reference subjects.

Users are not limited to products discovered through ChatGPT. Instead, they can upload an image of clothing, including a screenshot from another website. ChatGPT can then create a virtual try-on based on that reference.

However, OpenAI cautions that generated images may not accurately represent a product or a user’s appearance. They also cannot guarantee the fit or sizing of clothing. Therefore, shoppers should still check measurements, product details and return policies before purchasing.

Favourites Adds Product Saving

Alongside virtual try-on, OpenAI has introduced Favourites for shopping. Users can save products to their ChatGPT Library and return to them later.

Moreover, users can organise saved products into folders. Try-on images are also stored with these saved items, creating a single place for shopping discoveries and generated previews.

ChatGPT can also help users build outfits from a particular style. For example, users can describe a look and ask ChatGPT to find suitable pieces. They can also upload photos of celebrity outfits and ask ChatGPT to identify purchasable items.

ChatGPT Enters AI Fashion Shopping

The update further embeds ChatGPT in AI-assisted shopping and fashion discovery. Meanwhile, Google already offers an AI virtual try-on feature that lets shoppers visualise apparel using their own images.

OpenAI’s approach combines product discovery, visual generation and saved shopping collections in one conversational interface. As a result, users can move from finding an item to visualising it without leaving the ChatGPT experience.

The feature also builds on OpenAI’s broader investment in image generation. ChatGPT Images 2.5 supports sharper details, more precise editing and faster generation across ChatGPT’s web and mobile experiences.

For shoppers, the change could make visual product discovery more interactive. However, the generated previews remain visual approximations rather than reliable indicators of fit, size or final appearance.
