Grammarly has introduced eight AI-powered agents to assist students and professionals in creating better writing. By moving beyond basic grammar correction, the platform now positions itself as an academic and workplace assistant. These agents are integrated into Grammarly Docs, an AI-native writing platform built on Coda technology. Consequently, users can get guidance at every stage, from drafting to final review.
How the AI Agents Work
Unlike a single general chatbot, Grammarly’s agents focus on specific tasks and can be activated as needed. When turned on, each agent evaluates the document and suggests actions such as finding citations or anticipating reader questions, while keeping writers fully in control.
The eight agents and their roles include:
-
Reader Reactions: Predicts reader interpretation, questions, or misunderstandings and suggests edits.
-
AI Grader: Provides feedback aligned with rubrics or course requirements and estimates grades.
-
Citation Finder: Locates supporting or opposing sources and formats citations automatically.
-
Expert Review: Offers domain-specific advice to enhance academic or professional quality.
-
Proofreader: Improves clarity and flow while preserving the writer’s voice.
-
AI Detector: Scores text as likely AI- or human-written for authenticity checks.
-
Plagiarism Checker: Compares content with databases and publications to ensure proper attribution.
-
Paraphraser: Rewrites text to match tone, audience, and style, supporting custom voice preferences.
Access and Availability
These AI agents are housed in Grammarly Docs, where users can draft, edit, and refine writing. Additionally, AI Chat is integrated for brainstorming, summarizing, and quick suggestions, reducing the need to leave the document.
Currently, all Grammarly Free and Pro users can access the agents. However, advanced features such as AI Detector and Plagiarism Checker are exclusive to Pro subscribers. Enterprise and Education accounts will gain access later this year. While the tools are limited to Docs for now, Grammarly plans to expand availability across its 500,000-plus integrated apps and websites.
