Samsung’s 115-Inch Micro RGB TV Promises Unmatched Color Accuracy at a Lower Price

115-inch Samsung Micro RGB TV display

First revealed at CES 2025, Samsung has officially launched its first TV using Micro RGB backlight technology. The initial 115-inch model is available in South Korea for over $32,000, according to SamMobile. Samsung plans to bring it to the US next, followed by a global rollout that will include additional sizes.

Unlike Mini LED backlights that rely on tiny white or blue LEDs, Micro RGB uses an ultra-fine pattern of individually controlled red, green, and blue LEDs under 100µm in size. This design allows for precise control over light intensity, enhancing both color accuracy and contrast. The backlight is powered by Samsung’s Micro RGB AI engine, which “analyzes each frame in real time and automatically optimizes color output for a more lifelike and immersive picture.” The system can even boost dull scenes, making them more vibrant and engaging.

Performance and Cost Advantages

One major advantage of Micro RGB is its lower production cost compared to MicroLED. Samsung’s 115-inch model costs about KRW 44.9 million (around $32,362), far less than the company’s 110-inch MicroLED TV, which retails for $150,000 in the US. This price difference could make high-end performance more accessible to consumers seeking premium displays.

The 4K Micro RGB TV supports a 144Hz variable refresh rate for gaming, AI upscaling, HDR10+, and includes a 70-watt 4.2.2 Dolby Atmos speaker setup. It offers four HDMI 2.0 ports, two USB-A ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and can function as a Matter controller. For Philips Hue users, the TV can synchronize lighting colors with on-screen content, adding another layer of immersion.

Competition in the RGB Backlight Space

Samsung is not alone in pursuing this approach to LED backlights. Sony has introduced its General RGB LED Backlight Technology, while Hisense announced a 116-inch TriChroma LED TV at CES 2025. Hisense’s model claims to reproduce 97 percent of the BT.2020 color space, but Samsung says its Micro RGB reaches 100 percent, potentially making it one of the most color-accurate TVs on the market.
