UAE First to Offer Nationwide Access to ChatGPT
On May 26, 2025, the United Arab Emirates announced it will become the first country to provide nationwide access to ChatGPT. In partnership with OpenAI, the UAE will roll out this service via Stargate UAE, a groundbreaking AI infrastructure initiative based in Abu Dhabi. As part of a larger UAE-US AI megacomplex, Stargate UAE is set to revolutionize regional and global access to generative AI tools.
This facility will house up to 5 gigawatts of computing capacity, making it the largest AI infrastructure outside the United States. It will cover nearly 20 square kilometers in the capital and serve not only local needs but also those of countries across the Global South. As a result, the UAE is positioning itself as a central hub for AI innovation and deployment.
Generative AI Across Key Sectors
Crucially, the initiative aims to integrate generative AI into vital sectors such as education, healthcare, transportation, energy, and government services. While other nations have introduced AI tools selectively, the UAE is taking a national approach. This strategy is designed to boost long-term innovation and foster economic resilience.
In addition, OpenAI and UAE leaders confirmed that the project will support sustainable development. By harnessing a mix of nuclear, solar, and natural gas energy, Stargate UAE will minimize emissions without compromising performance. Furthermore, its computing infrastructure is expected to scale AI capabilities for millions of users worldwide.

Stargate UAE will not only offer high-performance computing, it will also feature a dedicated scientific center.
