UAE Cyber Security Council Warns 25% of Public Files Expose Data
The UAE Cyber Security Council warned that nearly 25 percent of publicly accessible files contain sensitive personal data. Therefore, it urged users to adopt safer practices when sharing files online.
As part of its ongoing ‘Cyber Pulse’ awareness campaign, the council emphasized responsible digital behavior. Moreover, it highlighted how simple actions can significantly reduce exposure to cyber risks. Consequently, individuals and organizations must remain cautious when handling online data.
Key Risks and Security Measures

Furthermore, the council pointed out that 68 to 77 percent of privately shared files may still be accessible to unintended users. Therefore, managing access permissions and monitoring file usage becomes critical. At the same time, relying solely on cloud storage does not guarantee protection, which makes encryption even more important.
The council also recommended several practical steps. For example, users should create strong passwords and update them regularly. Additionally, enabling two-factor authentication adds another layer of protection. Users should also avoid public links for sensitive files and review privacy settings frequently.

Beyond these steps, the council advised users to delete unused files and links to reduce risk. Similarly, securing Wi-Fi networks and keeping devices updated can prevent vulnerabilities. In addition, reviewing app permissions and using VPNs on public networks can improve safety.
